The second day of the tour started at a slightly more reasonable hour; we were up at 6:00 and were down for breakfast shortly after 7:00. The breakfast buffet was just as well-appointed as it had been the day before, and we had a leisurely and enjoyable breakfast. We were on the bus with time to spare; it departed at 8:00. The first destination of the way was Table Mountain. The plan was to take the gondola to the top of the mountain; unfortunately when we arrived at the gondola station it was too windy for the gondola to run.
Continue Reading »The first day of our tour started early in the morning. We woke up at around 5:30, quickly showered (no wasting of water in Cape Town!), got ready, and went to the hotel dining room for breakfast at 6:30. The breakfast was a buffet with a plethora of choices - I had an omelette with ham, bacon, onions, mushrooms and peppers; Todd had fruit, yogurt, baked eggs and bacon. The tour was scheduled to start at 7:15, so after breakfast we went to a meeting room on the first floor of the hotel to kick things off.
Continue Reading »We were exhausted from our previous day of travel, so we didn’t wake up until 10:40. We quickly showered, got dressed and packed up, and went down to the hotel lobby to check out at 11:40. We had booked our first night separate from the tour group, so even though it was in the same hotel we had to change rooms. We were planning on leaving our bags with the hotel until we were able to check in later in the day, however our room was ready for us so we dropped our bags in our new room then went back down to the lobby.
Continue Reading »The trip to South Africa began in the early afternoon on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Our first flight, KLM 692, was scheduled to depart from Pearson at 5:15 PM, so we had the car packed and departed from Kitchener shortly before 1 PM. Traffic was a breeze, and we arrived at the Park N’ Fly Self-Park lot shortly before 2 PM. We had checked in online the afternoon before, however we still had to get into line to check our bags at the KLM drop-off point in Terminal 3.
